A former NKOTB member’s son with a Slipknot t-shirt? Is Joey McEntire’s kid parading around in ICP jerseys? I guess if I was the son of someone from that band, I’d need rebelious music as an outlet too…
Former New Kids On The Block (excuse me, NKOTB) badboy Donnie Wahlberg is apparently a big Boston Celtics fan, and thankfully for the team’s fanbase, Wahlberg thinks the 2007-2008 Celtics are very close to having ‘The Right Stuff’ (awful pun fully intended). Wahlberg thinks that this year’s squad could be a major force if they can just make the ever-so-easy move of bringing in a star big man without giving up one of the team’s three best players. I’ll let the ever loquatious Donnie elaborate:
“If they can get a big man to play alongside of Paul (Pierce) and Ray Allen and possibly keep Al Jefferson, it could be a fantastic year in Boston.”
Well that’s certainly a dynamite observation right along the lines of claiming that the Detroit Tigers will regulate Major League Baseball when they get their fireballer, Joel Zumala, back. Maybe the Celtics should start decorating Danny Ainge’s office with Jordan Knight posters right now, because it appears Donnie Wahlberg has found the key to being a successful NBA General Manager. Trade for a star big man without giving up any good players; seems plausible.
I fully realize Donnie probably gave this quote in about a 10 second interview (because who would really want to interview him any longer than that), so I really shouldn’t rip him for proposing such a vague and impossible trade scenario in which he makes no mention of how the Celtics could acquire said star big man without giving up Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, or Al Jefferson, or how the trade could be done without violating the salary cap. But I’m going to make fun of him anyway.
The Herald article goes on to explain the Wahlberg will apparently be courtside at preseason Fleet Center contests, rooting on his beloved Celtics. I don’t know if that arena has metal detectors, but if there isn’t security there to check Wahlberg for butane and alcohol, I have no intention of getting within 1,000 miles of Boston on any date the Celtics have a home preseason game, and I would advise all of you to do the same.
In closing, I would like to thank Donnie Wahlberg for his ‘Step By Step’ (I’m loving how east it is to use an NKOTB song name as a pun) analysis of how the 2007-2008 Celtics can contend in the NBA. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to listen to my Weird Al Yankovic tape with ‘The White Stuff’ on it. Weird Al…now that’s talent.
