The NHL season might run approximately the same time as the NBA season, but the competition between the two for most popular sport ended a long time ago. Eventually, sports columnists were comparing the NHL to NASCAR to determine which one could lay claim to being the fourth biggest sport in the country. Then, through a lot of inbreeding in the southern United States, somehow NASCAR blew up and destroyed the NHL in the ratings war.
So where does that leave Gary Bettman and company? How about making crappy commercials over the last few years that attack bowling as a sport? What’s next on the agenda, Gary? Maybe a mass ad campaign detailing how much more exciting hockey is than the equestrian?
