I guess Ben Curtis has an extra reason to want to taste major championship victory again…

Hey, I remember Ben Curtis’ cindarella run to capture the Claret Jug in 2003 as the world’s then 396th ranked player. And I know he’s from Kent State and all, but how is the fact that Curtis wants to win more majors actually a news story in Ohio today? Someone will have to introduce me to more than one golfer who’s goal isn’t to win major tournaments. Thanks to Jean Van De Velde, we know there’s at least one golfer who doesn’t aspire to win the big tournaments, but I think he’s pretty much been cast aside as a semi-retarded version of Roy ‘Tin Cup’ McAvoy with Van De Velde’s antics in 1999.

Ben Curtis wants to win more majors when he looks at his trophy from 2003. Glad I read a story verifying that for me. I was really uncertain if Ben’s goal was to show up at the British Open and miss the cut so he can go sight seeing in England for an extra two days. I wonder if they’re running stories down in Windemere, FL about how Tiger Woods wants to win more majors. Maybe they could even do a special foldout about how he wants to pass Jack Nickalaus and be the best golfer ever! People need to know this stuff.

God, this has to be the sports story equivalent to when ‘health news’ releases a story like this. But I don’t want to rain on the four year anniversery of Ben Curtis’ magical run to victory at the British Open too much, so I’ll just say good luck Ben. If it comes down to you and Van De Velde, I think you can start celebrating early.
