I have to say, intentional or not, I’m with Derek Lee on this one. Anytime you nearly get blasted in the face with a pitch, I think it’s fair game to charge the mound. That being said, what a sorry attempt at a punch from both Lee and Young. They both whiffed pretty bad; maybe they’d be better off going for the Ric Flair chop on each other. By the way, I hope that the previous video link isn’t a demonstration of what Latin people consider fun.
And someone definitely needs to think the Cubs’ announcer for his amazing commentary. I love when he says “Oh, Derek got hit by a pitch.” Maybe he could give us vivid insightful commentary on other facets of the game, like the fact that the Cubs uniforms are red, white, and blue. Thanks for giving such insightful analysis.
Also, is anyone really surprised that Carlos Zambrano managed to get involved in this fight? I feel like we need to dispatch John McLane to diffuse this guy (this is a great YouTube clip), because he is just an absolute walking time bomb. I predict Big Z will be the first player ever to charge the other team’s pitcher and first baseman when they try too many pickoff plays in a row. Hell, I could see him charging a batter for hitting a liner back at him while he’s on the mound. I wonder how it would be to hang out with Carlos off the diamond? He’d probably bring his timebomb mentality into all walks of life. I could see him attacking his boys if he didn’t get shotgun for the night.
You get the point. I wouldn’t call Zambrano the calmest person ever. Now we just need to get him to lie on top of a dugout during a road game after a fight and get a drunk fan to lob a beer at him. My inclincation is that could end up being a bad situation. But that’s just a gut feeling.
