Shaq And D-Wade Need Additions To Their Homes; Miami Set To Sign Jacque Vaughn This Offseason To Rectify The Problem

June 14th, 2007 · 1 Comment

How will the Heat get back to the apex of the NBA? Perhaps by bringing in a point guard who led the Hawks to a slew of 20 win seasons and who had difficulty stopping Orlando Magic calibur (a.k.a. 57 year-old calibur) Patrick Ewing off the dribble.

Well, the Miami Heat certainly took a 1990’s Rick Astley like fall from glory this past NBA season when they went from NBA champions to getting eliminated in the 1st round of the postseason by a team that actually gave Michael Sweetney and his extra chin some playoff burn this year. Nevertheless, I can’t really be reading in the Miami Herald that anyone down in South Florida thinks bringing Jacque Vaughn is a good idea. Sure, he’s logging some backup minutes in the NBA Finals with San Antonio this year, but I mean, Jacque Vaughn is going to help you? Who else is on the radar for Pat Riley this offseason? Mateen Cleaves and Miles Simon? Hell, let’s make it a mid-90’s Jayhawk reunion and invite Adonis Jordan into South Beach for a tryout. I’m sure he can easily be located playing basketball in some country where AM radio and the typewriter are a prevalent part of modern techology.

But the more I study the idea that Vaughn will be flaming next year (as a member of the Heat), the more it makes sense to me. I mean, if the organization needs to do whatever it can to placate D-Wade and Shaq, this might not be a bad idea. I’m sure those two megastars are constantly in the process of increasing their crib-size. What the hell, why not bring in one of the most noted masons in the NBA during the last 15 years to help lay some bricks? It all seems so simple now.

Man, I bet Pat Riley doesn’t miss the days of having Byron Scott, Michael Cooper, and Charles Oakley as role players. Hell, even Kurt Rambis would be a cause for excitement. But hey, as a fan of a declining Pistons’ team, let me be the first to thank Pat Riley if he signs Jacque Vaughn and actually plays him for giving the Pistons’ another small window to get back to the NBA Finals. Gracias, Senor Riley.
