If Rob Reiner wants tips on how someone his size should throw a pitch, he could probably get the most useful assistance from former Red Sox reliever Rich Garces
Apparently actor/producer Rob Reiner is slated to throw out the opening pitch at the June 11th Phillies-Chi Sox game in Philadelphia (scroll down to the second to last note for the info). Reiner is apparently quite the Phillies’ fan, but I don’t think I agree with Phillies’ upper-level management in letting him get on the bump to throw out the opening pitch for a bevy of different reasons.
Firstly, Reiner isn’t exactly the slimmest of people, and if he gets all his momentum into a solid windup, there’s gotta be like an 84% chance he could fall and cause a rumbling that would make John Tenta proud. Secondly, in case you didn’t know already, Reiner isn’t exactly the slimmest of people, and I bet he’s at least giving some thought to eating the baseball, which would certainly be an ugly spectacle for all parties involved. Finally, things could get ugly if the sports-crazed Phillies’ fans decide to point out some of the more manly films Reiner has produced during his time while he’s on the mound, such as the always enjoyable Alex & Emma, The American President, The Story Of Us, and When Harry Met Sally. Sure, we got A Few Good Men and Spinal Tap in there, but I don’t see Philadelphia sports fans emphasizing those films should they decide to let Reiner know what they think of his production. I think with Reiner’s credits he should probably be shooting the ceremonial first free-throw at the New York Liberty’s next game.
Sorry Rob, but I speak the truth. And I apologize if you can’t handle the truth.
